Romans 3: We are Justified Freely by His Grace

Romans 3: We are  Justified Freely by His Grace Collin Leong.  June 29, 2025 (v1-8) God's Faithfulness (v1-4) Paul said that being a Jew is advantageous and there is value is circumcision. Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God. Those who are unfaithful will not nullify God's faithfulness. God will always be true, it is we that are liars. It's written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.”   Paul's quote is taken from Psalm 51:4 - "Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge."   In Psalm 51, David acknowledges that his sin (after the Bathsheba incident) proves God right in judging him. David doesn’t blame God—he affirms that God’s judgment is just, even when it condemns him. In other words, Paul is saying that God's truth and faithfulness will not be compromised by human failure. David's unfaithfulness proves t...

Romans 2: Hypocrisy and Holiness: God Sees the Heart

Romans 2: Hypocrisy and Holiness: God Sees the Heart Collin Leong. June 27, 2025 (v1-16) God's Righteous Judgement  (Genesis 4:1-7; Jude 1:3-16) (v1- 4) Paul said that they who pass judgment to others are condemning themselves, as they do the same things. God's judgement against those who do such things is based on truth. If a human being pass judgment on them and yet do the same thing, will they escape God's judgment? If they show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, do they realize that God's kindness is intended to lead the sinner to repentance?  Paul is asking us not to make judgment on other people, as we are also sinners. Judgement is God's responsibility. God sometimes do not judge the sinners immediately, rather, he is kind and patient with them, in order to lead them to repentance. When we judge someone, we are showing contempt for God's mercy to that person. In other words, God prefers to wait for the sinner to go back t...

Romans 1: Greetings and General Revelation Collin Leong. June 24, 2025 (v1-7) Greetings to the Saints in Rome (v1-4) Paul called himself a servant of Jesus Christ, and called to be an apostle, and set apart for the gospel of God.  He said that the gospel is:  a) a promised beforehand through the prophets b) it's regarding His Son in His earthly life. He was a descendant of David.  c) through the Spirit of holiness, Jesus was appointed the Son of God in power by His resurrection from the dead, and becomes Christ our Lord.  Jesus was always the Son of God, but through His resurrection, that identity was publicly declared and powerfully confirmed . It’s God’s stamp of approval, showing that Jesus is not just a teacher or prophet, but the victorious, divine Son. (v5-7) Paul received grace and apostleship through Jesus Christ, in order to call Gentiles to obedience that comes from faith in Jesus Christ. The letter recipients are the ones called to belong t...
