Romans 8: Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love

Romans 8:  Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love Collin Leong. October 29. 2025 (v1-11) Life in the Spirit (v1-4) Paul declared that there no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, for the law of the Spirit of life has set us free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. God has done what the law - weakened by the flesh - could not do, by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin. He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  Exp: In v3, Paul did not say Jesus came in sinful flesh , but in the likeness of it. Jesus took on real human nature—flesh and blood—but without sin (Hebrews 4:15).  The words  “And for sin” (Greek: peri hamartias) can be translated “as a sin offering” (as noted in some footnotes). In v4, It is not humanity that was condemned, but sin itself in being condemned in ...

Romans 7: Deliverance comes only through Jesus Christ

Romans 7:  Deliverance comes only through Jesus Christ Collin Leong.  October 13, 2025 (v1-6) Released from the Law (v1-3) The law is binding on a person only as long as he lives. For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. She would be called an adulteress if she lives with another man, if her husband is still alive. If her husband dies, she is free from that law and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.  Exp: Paul use the example of the law concerning marriage. In v3, the "law" that she is freed from is the law concerning adultery within marriage. Once the husband dies, she is no longer bound by that law. However, other laws outside of the marriage still applies to her.  (v4-6) Paul says that the Jews have died to the law through the body of Christ. so that they belong to Him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. When were ...

Romans 6: The Gift of God is Eternal Life in Christ Jesus

Romans 6:  The Gift of God is Eternal Life in Christ Jesus Collin Leong. October 12, 2025 (v1-14) Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ (v1-4) Shall we continue sinning to get more grace? No, we who have died to sin cannot live in it any longer. All of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death. We are buried with him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.  Exp: Paul continued on what he said in Rom 5:20 - "The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more."  That means no matter how much we have sinned, grace will increase beyond that. This should not be an excuse for us to continue sinning for those who believe in Jesus Christ. We now have a new life and should not desire sin anymore.  (v5-7) We have been united with him in death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrect...

Romans 5: Reconciled To God Through Jesus' Death

Romans 5: Reconciled To God Through Jesus' Death Collin Leong. October 10, 2025 (v1-10) Reconciled To God Through Jesus' Death (v1-5) Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have gained this grace through faith, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God. We also glory in our sufferings, because it produces perseverance, and it produce character, and it produces hope. We know that the hope will not put us to shame, as God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.  Exp: Our character is shaped by our perseverance in suffering. We need to know how to posture and behave ourselves in suffering, be it in persecution or in disabilities. Our character must be one of joy and encouragement to others, so that they know we have a greater hope for our future, because we have peace with God.      The Greek word for "shame" is kataischynō, which implies being dishonored or let down...

Romans 4: Righteousness is Granted By Faith In God

Romans 4:  Righteousness is Granted By Faith In God Collin Leong. October 7, 2025 (v1-25 )  Justified by Faith (v1-8) Paul argued that if Abraham is justified by works, he had something to boast about, but not before God. The scripture say that "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. " ( Gen. 15:6)  Wages are not credited as gift but as an obligation to those who works. Those who does not work but trusts God who justify the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness . David said the same thing: "Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them" (Psalms 32:1-2) (v9-12) Paul says that this blessedness is given even to those who are not circumcised, for Abraham was blessed before he was circumcised. His circumcision is a sign - a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith. So he is that father of all who believe, but have not been c...
